Mr. Mohammed Ahmad Al Hashimi Chairperson
Mohammed Al Hashimi is the Executive Director Corporate Services. He was the key contributor of the SAP implementation project in Dubai Aluminum Company (DUBAL) and spent almost two decades in various departments related to the development of ICT. He also headed the Information Security & Technical Services in the same organization.
Al Hashimi was appointed as the Executive Director of Corporate Services Department at Dubai Airport Free Zone in 2008. He earned a Bachelor of Science - Computer Engineering from University of Southampton, UK 1986-89 and honed to be leader attended the Young Manager Program, INSEAD and Fontainebleau, France. He also attended a Diploma in Electronic Engineering & Computer Technologies from 1985-1986. Al Hashimi has a passion for painting and travels.
He has suffered from AS for the last 10 years and hence as a patient brings a greater perspective to the cause.Due to wrong diagnosis here in the UAE, he travelled to Singapore for treatment, where he was diagnosed and refereed back to the UAE to the Dubai Bone and Joint Centre.He is now living well with his disease and wants to help others.The Al Hashimi family has been and is involved greatly in community and charity.
Dr. Waleed Al Shehhi worked in Zayed military hospital as a consultant rheumatologist for one and a half years.He then left toDublinto work on his M.D until Feb 08.
Dr. Walled started as a consultant rheumatologist and head of department in the MOH-UAE since May 2008. He also work in a private centre in Dubai.He became the president of the ESR in July 2008, he also received the Fellowship of the Royal College ofIreland(FRCPI) in October 2009.
Suzanne held the position of the Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Bone and Joint Centre. A first of its kind, ambitious project of bringing world class specialized healthcare integrated with biotech research to the region. In addition, Suzanne has lead a strategic partnership in biotech research with the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam and Arthrogen, a Biotech company, was created as a result, for the research, development and exploitation of new gene therapy technologies and products to locally treat rheumatoid arthritis. As an advisory Board Member, she had to evaluate and approve all strategic decisions, business plans, joint ventures, patent licensing, and recommend means of financing.
Launched under the patronage of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, Suzanne was, one of two founding members of the first patient’s foundation in the country with the vision ofimproving the quality of life for arthritis sufferers throughleadership in the prevention, control, and cure of arthritis. Besides Suzanne’s challenging career, she isa passionate nature lover, adventure seeker, and a mountaineer who has many “first summits” she has also gained the record as the first Arab Woman who climbed Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, Elbrus, Toubkal, Aconcagua & Vinson.
Shaikha Al Naqbi is an Emirati graduate with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.Her career first began with her role as Teaching Assistant with the University of Sharjah. Now she holds a position as Administrative & Financial Coordinator for the University of Sharjah and is responsible for coordinating workshops and events within the Business department. Shaikha’s experience with working with the general public has taught her the value of friendliness and open-mindedness. Shaikha also volunteers her time with Friends of Arthritis Patients (FAP) foundation in UAE, Sharjah.She is passionate about helping others and avidly donates her time to worthy causes.
Dr. Humeira Badsha has over 16 years of experience as a Rheumatologist across three countries – USA, Singapore and UAE. She has been the principal investigator in various clinical trials of medications for rheumatoid arthritis, and published several papers in leading journals. She had been working in Dubai since 2005, having moved from her practice in Boston, MA.Dr Badsha is the preferred provider for many referring doctors in the UAE and region. Implemented key quality measures in clinical practice. Her leadership role in educating GPs and Family doctors and raising standards of care. Chairperson of the first series of middle east Rheumatology conferences.
Dr. Badsha exhibits a strong leadership role in Rheumatology education, research and publications. Founder and secretary of the Emirates Society for Rheumatology. Inducted the society into the Asia Pacific League of Rheumatology
Reem graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Architecture from the American University of Sharjah. She worked in real estate development for a couple of year, taking on professional training courses in project management. While project management became a main vocation, her passion for translation and languages never ceased. She later went on to study Spanish in Spain, and passed the mastery level qualification. Upon returning to Dubai, she decided to turn this long lasting hobby to become her main job. She worked with Shufflegazine – a bilingual magazine- as the Arabic editor and translator. She has also translated a couple of books that are currently under publishing.
Recently Reem joined the Emirates Wildlife society in Association with World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF), an NGO, as a communication officer. Although still young, Reem has a lot of passion for what she does, both in translation and in her recent work.
Barkha Shewakramani, 27 years old with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. Currently a housewife and married for 6 years and a mother to a beautiful baby boy. 5years ago she was diagnosed with SLE - systemic lupus erythromitiosis. Barkha had to take several drugs to control her disease namely steroids, immunosupressants, and heparin. By god’s grace her Lupus has been in remission for over 2 years now but it was an eye opening episode of her life. She decided to be a part of Emirates Arthritis Foundation and contribute in helping people overcome the pain and emotional stress of this chronic disease.
Dr Ayesha Almutawa is a Medical Doctor who holds Masters in Public Health both in Health policy and Management and Health behaviour and Education from the American University in Bierut. Her focus areas areStrategic planning , quality management, performance improvement, process reengineering, change management, and employee engagement systems and initiatives. She has experience in building and managing relationships with International and LocalUAE governmental organizations, Ministries and legal entities to ensure alignment with regulations and fulfilment of local requirement in an environment that nurture best practice & innovation. Dr. Ayesha has 14 years of experience as an executive in Strategy, Quality & business excellence, Policy and Planning, as well as Corporate social responsibility and sustainability; she was The Vice President for Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality in Dubai Healthcare City, and prior to that She was the Director of the Central Department of Health Education in the Ministry of Health. She is currently working as an Independent Sustainability Consultant.
Dr Ayesha is assisting the Foundation by educating corporations about Corporate Social Responsibility& Sustainability strategy in line with a globally recognized guidelines, standards & indicators.
Buthaina has completed higher studies in Software Engineering Technology from Dubai Women’s College in 2001. Additionally, she has gained an International Diploma in Management in 2007.Since 2002, she has been working in Dubai Airport Free Zone and currently the Director of Information & Communication Technology; responsible for all the Application Development, ICT Infrastructure, Networks, Information Security, and Technical Support.
Working and helping for the right cause is one of her goals. She believes that patients and needy people deserve the attention and support of all. Moreover, Buthaina sees that there is a lack of understanding pertaining to certain aspects of awareness towards health conditions. She strongly believes that if awareness is carried out properly, it would definitely enhance the overall conditions of patients and alert those who are oblivious of medical conditions that they may have.
